A total loss

So, on this past Wed, the 2nd of December, I was in a car accident. In a parking lot.
My car was parked, off, and I was relaxing, reading my book. I was caught completely off guard! I had backed in to the third space from the end at Borders, as was my usual when the preschool Max attends doesn't need me.
A lady in the next parking lot thought the accelerator was the brake, had it pressed to the floor, and dropped he little Honda Civic into gear. She went through, well, (over-ish really) the bushes, pushed my car forward about 5 or 6 feet, and she teeter-tottered on the hedges until the Fire Department could get there and move her car.

My Farmers adjuster called me earlier with the news that there was more than $10,000 in damage (before getting under the shell) and that he considered my car "a total loss". Really? Well, ok, the car is in really bad shape. If I know how to put photo's here, I would. But the car isn't a total loss to me. It did EXACTLY what it needed to do, protect me. My neck and shoulders are sore, and I have a head ache at the base of my skull. But, I walked away from an accident that could have been much, much worse if I'd parked the other direction. I walked away.

So, my wonderful little Mazda 3 is totaled. She is broken, and bent, and there is glass all the way to the front dashboard. But, I got out. I'm sore, but I can walk. I'm achy, but I can breathe, I'm not in the hospital (or worse).......
Sure, it's only three weeks to Christmas. But you know, it will be a good one even without my little car. I can get another car. It is, after all a possession. The important thing is I'm ok. Max was in school, and he got a new carseat out of the deal. So he's ok. (He was STOKED to get to ride in a tow truck! The driver was nice enough to swing by the school and pick Max up. He got such a kick out of that!)

I need to get everything in order with the insurance company. And shop for a car. Which sucks! But really, it could have really been a total loss.........(I could have been part of the loss.......... Ever feel like you were sitting in the palm of God's hand?)

Laptop revisited

You never really know how technology-dependent you are until you are without that technology for a while. My laptop has been down for a couple of weeks. I just needed a new power cord.
First I had to find out if it had to be the same brand of my pc (Jeff says YES!).... Oh My Goodness! $100 For a power cord? What is it? Platinum????
Second I had to find one that didn't cost $100.... I mean, come on! Seriously? It's only 8 weeks until Christmas! Like I'm gonna' drop $100 on a non-gift right now.
Ta-Dah! E-Bay saved the day! $20 and a week later I have my cord! Woo-Hoo! SO here I am again......

Christmas plan revision:
Find Fabric for two sisters purses and make said purses
Find Family gift for other sisters and kids
Make Scrapbook for Max that includes recent accidents...
Oh, and Mom and Dad!

I'm thinking early.

The house is sweetly quiet with my little charge sleeping. The washing machine is going, and I've got a ball of yarn next to me on the couch. It's hot outside but I'm already thinking about the holidays. Money is uber-tight this year, so most of my gifts will be hand made. Good thing I've picked up crocheting and sewing again.

So far on the list are purses (from my favorite Lazy Girls patterns, Towne and City Bag), a scarf for one sister...... Ok, really that's all I've come up with. And on those purses, I can not find fabric I like for two of those sisters. I have the inside fabric for one, but no clue what to do for the outside, or other complete purse.

Selling Tupperware helps, I just have to get more diligent and persistant with it. We'll get there. It's always nice, I just normally don't worry about it this early. Maybe I'll get it all done early, and be able to relax during the season.

So here's the plan:
1. work on scarf daily (one sister down... she already has a purse I made her)
2. find fabric for sister's purses (neices, too-they'll love "Sassy")
3. find ideas for Mom and Dad (Mom DOES need a better wallet)
4. Convince my darling husband that he doesn't really need the dining table..... that's where my littel Janome Gold sits....Probably until New Years Day
